Patchwork Memories

Barry and Darren have both been writing songs together for over 25 years and writing individually for years before that, as young teens. Between them they have amassed a catalogue of hundreds of songs, a vast majority of which have generally gone unheard. Some of them were intended for the bands they were in before and were lost as those came to their respective ends; some were just ideas scrawled in notebooks in the early hours of the night and never revisited; some were too on-the-nose, too personal, or too hard to share at the time, being primarily written as therapy for the writer; some were close to finished but never released, in favour of other songs – cut from albums for brevity or tone. This list could go on and on… the point is that there are some interesting, poignant, wonderful songs in that mix, which we feel deserved their time to be heard…

So that is what Patchwork Memories is about. With this, we’re revisiting those unheard, unfinished, unloved, unreleased songs, polishing them up and bringing them out into the world for you all to hear. We are aiming to put out a single roughly every month over the course of 2025 and potentially beyond. We plan to try to release as much of this material as we can (at least as much as we deem palatable for you all), over the next few years. So this is not a short-term project, but something that will hopefully run alongside/in between anything else we do.

You can expect an eclectic mix of sounds – these songs have been written in so many styles and at so many varied points in time. They reflect each of those times – the feelings, the experiences, the moment – each memory like a discarded patch of fabric. We are taking those patches and working them into something new…
